The city council voted unanimously to pass the Crown Hill Village upzone. When Crown Hill was first identified for upzoning, a group of committed neighbors came together to connect the community to the city process. The Crown Hill Urban Village Committee for Smart Growth worked tirelessly to create a seat at the table. They attended focus groups, surveyed the neighborhood, reached out to the city council, educated and supported neighbors to speak at city council meets, and spent countless hours themselves attending council meetings. The group did not take a position on growth, instead working to connect the entire community to the process.

The city created an urban village plan to manage and direct the city’s growth. In 2017, the city released their plan to increase housing and affordability across all the Urban Villages in the city.
