SUMMARY:Holman Grove Work Party
DESCRIPTION:A new way to use public land in Seattle!\nRight-of-way land owned by the City of Seattle should serve the community. Right of way is land like the strips of grass between the road and the sidewalk\, or odd little triangles of grass created by Seattle’s famous 5 way intersections. We can improve these spaces for people to use and enjoy as our City grows. If used to their potential\, these right of way areas can be beautiful community spaces to grow native plants\, edible plants or\, more beautiful plants. Unfortunately\, many of them are ugly\, unusable\, and left to languish with English Ivy or other invasive plants.  \nHolman Grove is a pilot project to make better use of these “lost” pieces of the right of way. This  large triangle of land could so much more! English Ivy steals water and nutrients from the trees around it so the first step is to remove the ivy and replace it with native plants. In future work parties we will plant fruit trees\, fruiting vines and more natives near this area. \nThis project is funded in part by the Neighborhood Matching Fund Award from Seattle Department of Neighborhoods with support from the Bullitt Foundation
