Fred Miller: peace activist, gardener, sailor, avid bicyclist, and storyteller.

Fred was a leader of the Seattle Peace movement. Maybe you caught his street performance as Major Warren D. Struction back in the day.

Fred was a long time member of From Hiroshima to Hope and helped make the annual Aug 6 lantern floating ceremony happen.

On Sundays, you would find Fred on the water with the Center for Wooden Boats.

The rest of the week, Fred led the Crown Hill Community Garden to grow and donate thousands of pounds of food to the Ballard Food Bank. He always had time to chat with kids and loved to hand them tools then let them figure out how to do things. He hosted the spring birdhouse building event and the garden club at the neighborhood middle school.

Fred lived a life committed to making a big impact on the world without making a negative impact on the environment. He never owned a car or had a driver’s license, he adventured by bike, by foot, and by public transit. He was a rabid environmentalist, optimist, and tireless nagger of people, always imploring his friend to volunteer for something or another.

We Miss You Fred
