Work Continues at Crown Hill Community Garden

Social Distance Gardening

The Crown Hill Community Garden continues to plant and tend their plots. This work is critical to local food infrastructure. The gardeners practice social distancing and ensure that the Ballard Food Bank has fresh vegetables through the spring, summer, and fall.

Get Involved from a Distance!

  • Donate Seeds! Farmer Fred usually participates in a robust seed exchange, but building closures compromised his supply line. Do you have extra seeds to donate? The remainder of the packet from your starts? Farmer Christal is especially looking for snap peas. You can drop them at the Crown Hill Center when you go for a walk – Just leave them in the wheel barrow. Or, you can email us and we will arrange a no contact porch pickup. You donate seeds, the gardeners plant the seeds at the Crown Hill Center, the Holman Grove, and in neighbor tended plots.
  • Garden at your own home! Plant some extra seeds. Once the food is grown, you can drop it by the Community Garden and Fred will make sure it gets to the food bank. Send us some pictures of your progress, or post and tag #crownhillvillage
  • Garden at the Community Garden plots! The gardeners are at the Holman Grove (by the Petco lot) on Saturdays from 11:30 – 4pm. Practice social distancing in the fresh air. Or catch Fred at the Crown Hill Center most weekday afternoons.
