Introducing Muralist Dozfy!

We are thrilled to announce the selection of the artist Dozfy to paint the Holman Overpass Mural! The Dozfy team is already hard at work, developing the vision for a mural that will celebrate our community through his unique style of art.

Dozfy envisions the mural as a visual history of the area told using Pacific Northwest natural elements. As the bridge connects our community, this mural will connect our past to our present and to our future. We can’t wait to see his homage to the Crown Hill that has been and the Crown Hill that we are building together right now. If weather and permits cooperate, Dozfy will paint the mural in October.

The Holman Road Pedestrian Overpass is more than a piece of infrastructure – it is also a landmark that defines the neighborhood. The overpass gives pedestrians easy passage across busy Holman Road and the dream of a mural has connected community members for at least 25 years. This spring, we put out a call for artists, and the response was both awe inspiring and humbling. After the Committee for Public Art selected their top candidates from a stellar group of applicants, the community had a chance to weigh in with their top choice.

You can see Dozfy’s murals in local restaurants and businesses as well as public art spaces all over town. Or maybe you will catch him making #MenuArt at one of your favorite local spots. His studio is in Ballard. So you never know where he might pop up! He surprised us at the Crown Hill Street Festival when he dropped by to meet neighbors and sketch pet portraits.

Thank you to all the Crown Hill neighbors who weighed in on our poll and to the public arts sub-committee for making the incredibly difficult selection. A special thank you to all the artists who applied. There is so much amazing talent in the Crown Hill area and we hope that this is just the first of many public art projects!
